I am an Associate Professor in the Program in Linguistics at Princeton University, which I joined in 2017. I received my Ph.D. in linguistics from UC Berkeley in 2016.

I am a field linguist specializing in the description and documentation of African and Oceanic languages, in particular:

  • The languages of southern Chad, notably Laal (isolate) and the Bua languages (Niger-Congo)

  • The Kalahari Basin languages (‘Khoisan’), specifically !Xun and |Xam

  • The Oceanic languages of New Caledonia, especially Paicî, Cèmuhî, Drubea, Numèè, Nemi, Xârâcùù.

My documentary work is guided by and contributes to linguistic theory, in particular:

  • phonology

  • typology

  • areal linguistics

  • historical linguistics

Most of my documentary work involves collaborations with other fields of research, specifically anthropology, ethnomusicology, ethnobotany, and archaeology.
